The Chairman,
 Central Board of Direct Taxes,
North Block,
New Delhi.
 Sir,
Sub:- Promotion to the cadre of ACIT for the R.Y. 2017-18 – regarding
This has with reference to the above referred subject; we would like to convey our sincere thanks to your honour and also to the Member (Admn), CBDT, New Delhi for taking efforts for holding the DPC for promotion to the cadre of ACIT for the R.Y. 2017- 18 by 31.03.2018. It is appreciable that under your leadership steps have been initiated to promote the long awaited deserving officers, who are stagnating for more than 13/14 years in the cadre of Income Tax Officer despite having residency period of only 3 years as per the recruitment rules. In this connection and to speed up the process of DPC as well as to facilitate early promotion, we have contacted all our units to remove the deficiencies of APAR immediately. We would therefore, like to request you kindly to issue necessary direction to the concerned administrative wing to finalise the vacancy position, eligibility list etc. on the basis of the details as collected by us from all the charges. The number of vacancies reported to UPSC for the direct recruitment is 180 for the R.Y. 2017-18. Considering high stagnation in the ITO cadre, we request for maximum possible promotions in the R.Y. 2017-18. We have also collected vacancy position in the cadre of DCIT/ACIT as on 19.01.2018 (region wise), which were 321 as per attached Annexure. We are sure that the same will facilitate early completion of the process for holding the DPC for promotion to the post of ACIT against the R.Y. 2017-18 and the much desired promotion.
 Thanking you,
 Yours sincerely,
 (Amitava Dey)
